Hoop Time orignated in 1993 as a weekly print tabloid covering college basketball in Central Pa. In the mid-1990s it was reborn as part of the Pottsville Reoublican's web site, becoming a place to feature the paper's basketball coverage. It came back as Hooptime v3.0 in 2004 as a stand alone web site that became recognized as the leading source of Patriot League basketball news until its demise following the 2012-13 season.
In its time, the site was at the forefront of online sports journalism, among the earliest sites to integrate multimedia content, live blogging, and social media. Many of the tools used to produce the site are no longer functional. Lost passwords for sites used to manage content, such as Tumblr, Cover It Live, and Storify make it impossible to recover all of the site's content. What is below is a sampling of the site. Please note, some external links below are no longer live. They are shown here in an effort to illustrate the site's design and concept.
With the url no longer active, defunct "tools" used to generate some content, and long forgotten passwords, we cannot replicate the entire site. Here, though, are a few clips from its final season. Please note, links at the ends of stories may not all work anymore.
